Current hiring needsPosition: Manager, Research and AnalysisLocation: MFIN Office, Gurgaon, Haryana, India Contract Duration: 12 months Starting Date: 26th Feb, 2012 or earlier BACKGROUND Microfinance Institutions Network (MFIN) is the primary representative body and the Self-Regulatory Organization (SRO) for Non Banking Finance Companies (NBFC) Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) regulated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). MFIN works with a broader financial inclusion ecosystem to ensure that its members and the microfinance industry can optimize their potential to achieve the financial inclusion agenda. MFIN currently has a membership of 47 NBFC MFIs which on an aggregate basis constitute over 89% of the microfinance business in India. The core areas of work for MFIN are Self Regulation, Policy Advocacy and Development. SELF-REGULATION In order to be an effective Self-Regulatory Organization (SRO) for the microfinance industry, and steer the industry towards greater transparency, accountability and customer-centricity, MFIN works on a number of tacks such as transparency, Code of Conduct and Credit Bureau among others. POLICY ADVOCACY Through engagement with governments, regulator and other stakeholders and direct interventions, MFIN endeavors to shape the regulatory agenda. The work involves monitoring regulatory developments, engaging governments in policy dialogue, providing them relevant information and sharing the best practices. DEVELOPMENT As a new and an evolving industry, microfinance has a number of collective needs in areas of information, research, market analysis and best practices. MFIN undertakes programs and initiatives to meet industry wide needs on a regular basis. The emphasis is on the programs that can contribute in improving the business practices thereby enhancing the impact of industry on clients’ livelihoods. Knowledge and Information, based on accurate, timely and relevant data is central to MFIN’s work across the three focus area. The position of the Manager Research and Analysis is therefore, a key position within MFIN to support the work across three focus areas. RESPONSIBILITIES The key responsibilities of the Manager Research and Analysis are described below: 1. Transparency | Data Collection • Work closely with MFIN members to collect, compile, verify, adjust and validate data as per MFIN’s requirements. This will entail data collection for various purposes at different frequencies including as per MIX Market data collection tool • Collect and analyze data using tools such as Microsoft Excel, Access and SQL databases and presenting them in easy-to-understand formats • Work with members to improve their data reporting • Improve the quality of disclosures with member organizations to follow CGAP disclosure requirements • Ensure that data reported to MFIN and MIX follows requisite standards
2. Transparency | Data Dissemination • Retrieve data from external and integral data-bases and develop spreadsheets and excel macros to filter, analyze, generate reports and draw conclusions from that data. • Assist with the preparation of the MFIN publications, especially in terms of data aggregation and analysis • Conceptualize and generate MFIN Publications (reports and research documents) based on Data at various frequencies • Work with MIX for review of MIX Market Intelligence Reports such as Country Brief, Quarterly Updates and Barometer • Develop and share presentations related to these publications with members of the senior management team (SMT), Board, policy makers, regulators and any other stakeholders • Support in organizing the Editorial Board meetings for the MFIN Publications • Ensure MFIN members’ data is aptly captured in other external publications such as Microfinance India State of the Sector Report.
3. Knowledge Management • Use the MFIN data for innovative publications that will add to the knowledge base of the microfinance industry. • Work with MFIN Policy and Communication team in conceptualizing round tables and policy dialogues to disseminate findings of data related work and research exercises 4. Data Management • Assist in identifying IT infrastructure (both software and hardware ) for an efficient data management • Assist in implementing the IT infrastructure related to data work • Manage Data Softwares including MIX database
5. Others • Stay up-to-date on latest thinking with regard to transparency by closely connecting with international bodies in this regard like SEEP Network’s Financial Services Working Group, CGAP, MIX and others. • Providing input on long-term and short-term strategic planning related to MFIN’s data and knowledge work • Make annual work plans • Coordinate partnership with MIX • Any other work that is deemed necessary by the MFIN from time-to-time.
REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL • Graduation in Commerce, Economics, Accounting or relevant field with good academic record, post graduation a plus • Minimum 5 years of professional experience • Prior work experience related to financial data analysis and understanding of Financial Reporting Standards • Knowledge of data management software and tools (strong grasp of Excel (Charting, Formulae, Pivots), VB Macros in Excel and MS Access, SQL, Database / Data Analytics tools) • Familiarity with microfinance or financial services sector • Understanding of microfinance data reporting standard of CGAP • Excellent written and spoken English

MFIN’s primary objective is to work towards the robust development of microfinance sector, by promoting responsible lending, client protection, good governance and a supportive regulatory environment.
CURRENT OPENING MFIN is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Manager / Manager–to work in the areas of Self-Regulation, member services and development initiatives for the microfinance industry. The selected candidate will be a part of the MFIN team at its Head Office in Gurgaon and will be working closely with MFIN’s senior management and members. RESPONSIBILITIES The key responsibilities will include: 1. Providing support to MFIN Enforcement Committee. 2. Monitoring of Member Institutions’ compliance with the Industry Code of Conduct and Regulatory requirements for the Microfinance Industry. 3. Conduct of due diligence on application for MFIN membership. 4. Compliance with Regulatory requirements for a Society. (MFIN is a Society Registered under the AP Societies Registration Act, 2001) 5. Conduct of Board Meetings and General Body meetings and preparation of connected documents. 6. Direct interaction with Member Institutions for providing support services. QUALIFICATIONS • Graduate in Commerce / Economics / Law or relevant field with good academic record.
